Epic Games store FAQ

Who are Epic Games? What is the Epic Games Launcher?

Epic Games are an American software and video game developer founded in 1991 responsible for games such as Fortnite, Unreal Tournament and Gears of War. Epic Games have recently launched their own online store selling digital copies of video games. The Epic Launcher is the free client used to download, install and run games bought from the Epic Games Store in a similar fashion to Steam, Origin, Uplay and Battle.net.

Epic Games also created the Unreal Engine, which many of today’s games are created with.

Why did you decide to distribute the game through the Epic Games Store?

Releasing a video game in today’s market is highly risky - our partnership with Epic Games greatly reduces this. After spending a lot of time considering all the possibilities, we came to an agreement with Epic Games to distribute Phoenix Point through their platform.

While we are unable to go into details on the specifics of our agreement with Epic Games, we really do believe that it is in the best interests of our studio, Phoenix Point and our future titles. It gives us the security not only to continue to support Phoenix Point long into the future but also to bring you other exciting titles once Phoenix Point is completed. In addition, it gives us the freedom to commit to more Phoenix Point content once the game has been released, which will be free for the first year to our backers up to this point.

Where will I be able to play Phoenix Point on PC and Mac? Will the game ever be released on Steam, GOG.com or through other third-party outlets?

Part of our arrangement with Epic is a one year-exclusivity period on PC and Mac through the Epic Games Store. One year after release, we’ll be able to distribute the game through other third-party stores, such as Steam and GOG.com. All backers up to this point will also STILL receive a Steam or GOG key after the 1 year exclusivity period. The Steam/GOG key will also receive the same 1 year of free DLC which came with the Epic key.

Why are we only just finding out about this now?

The decision to distribute Phoenix Point through Epic was only made recently, and we were unable to say anything until the deal was completed. We know this news may come to a surprise to some of our backers, and it was important to us to share it with you all as soon as possible afterward so that we could explain it properly and listen to your feedback.

I’m already a pre-order customer or Fig backer. What happens now?

All of our pre-order customers and Fig crowdfunding backers (Early Bird Digital Edition tier or higher) will receive a key for the retail version of Phoenix Point which will be redeemable via the Epic Games Launcher. The Epic Games Launcher is free to download.

To thank you for sticking with us, everyone who has backed (at the Early Bird Digital Edition tier or higher) or pre-ordered Phoenix Point from the launch of our crowdfunding campaign until today (12th March 2019) will receive all DLC we release in our first year for free.

How does this affect early access through the backer builds?

Our webstore at http://store.phoenixpoint.info will stay open, and you can still get early access there with the Platinum and Signature Editions. Future Backer Builds from Backer Build 4 onward will be delivered via the Epic Games Launcher when you redeem your key.

What about the Xbox One version?

Phoenix Point will still be available on Xbox One on the same day as the PC/Mac release.

Will Phoenix Point include any DRM with the Epic Games Launcher?

The Epic Games Launcher will be required to download and update Phoenix Point. Once the game is downloaded and installed on your system, you will be able to launch the game directly from a desktop or program menu shortcut. The launcher will not be required for day-to-day play. An “always on” internet connection will not be required.

I really wanted the game on Steam or GOG.com. What can I do?

Whichever delivery option you had originally opted for, we’re still positive that you will have a fantastic experience with Phoenix Point on the Epic Games Launcher.

All backers up to this point will also STILL receive a Steam or GOG key after the 1 year exclusivity period. The Steam/GOG key will also receive the same 1 year of free DLC which came with the Epic key.

If we really can’t tempt you over, we understand. You can cancel your pre-order (this includes Fig.co crowdfunding backers) by contacting the following email address orders@snapshotgames.com
