October Development Update
September Development Update
This mid-month update is going to be one of our shorter instalments. With the release of Phoenix Point being less than 2 months ahead of us, we’re continuing to add the last of the content, bug-fix and polish ready for launch.
Those playing Backer Build 5 - we really appreciate your feedback, so please keep it coming. You can submit in-game bug reports via the F12 key. You can also leave feedback and suggestions on our forums.
Backer Build 5
It’s been three weeks since we released Backer Build 5, our most feature-packed early access build yet. Since that time, our development team has been collecting and pouring through all of the feedback, suggestions, and bug reports everyone has submitted.
August Development Update
Backer Build 5 is almost upon us! On September 3rd we will be releasing our most comprehensive and feature loaded build yet. There are a huge number of additions and changes, some major and some subtle. We won’t cover all of them in this update (we’ll be releasing a full set of patch notes along with the build) - but let’s jump right in with an early look at some of the things you can expect in Backer Build 5.
The Mutations of Anu
We want to focus this backer update not on individual pieces of content, but on the studio, our teams, and what each of our teams is working on. Our hope is that this will give backers deeper insight into where we are in terms of progress on our development goals. First, we need to break down a bit of how our dev team is structured.
The Science of Synedrion
In our last update, we revealed the Synedrion classes and some of their technology. In this update, we will be focusing on another of our factions, the Disciples of Anu. We know many of you have been eagerly anticipating this faction, and we’re excited to show you the Disciples of Anu and their visually unusual look.
E3 and Beyond
As we are nearing the release of Phoenix Point and all of the elements we have been working on for the last 3 years are all coming together, we’re going to be posting these development updates on a more regular basis. They’re going to have a shorter format than the previous updates, but we still hope to show you lots of exciting things that you will be able to get your hands on in the release version of Phoenix Point.
In this update, we’re going to focus mainly on the Synedrion classes.
Backer Build Four
Members of the Phoenix Point team attended E3 2019 in LA. There as an indie studio as part of the ID@Xbox Showcase, we had an updated build playable in the Microsoft Theater.
Along with our new demo, there were three announcements regarding Phoenix Point made during the course of the event:
Phoenix Point is scheduled for release on September 3rd 2019
It will be available on Game Pass for PC and Xbox
We were able to show, for the very first time our cinematic “Next Life” trailer.
Phoenix Point - Access Granted
Since our first Backer Build in early 2018, players have taken control of the New Jericho forces. This was mainly because the New Jericho models were the first we started working on.
Finally, in Backer Build Four, Phoenix Point soldiers are now yours to control.
The Designs of Anu
The Phoenix bases play a very important role in both terms of narrative and gameplay. From the title base, Phoenix Point down to all of the other bases you will discover and reactivate as you explore the world - it is vital that we really nail these player controlled facilities.
Backer Build Three
Thus far we have only shown Havens for one of the major factions, New Jericho. We now turn our attention to The Disciples of Anu - the cult-like followers of an ancient god of the same name.
With Backer Build Three just around the corner, we’re taking this time to run you through some of the features and changes to expect in the upcoming build.
Behind the Scenes on Phoenix Point
Finding and destroying these enemy bases will be fundamental to your success in the game. Both slowing down their progress, and ultimately working towards a campaign victory. One of the main design goals for these enemy bases was to give them an organic appearance.
The Growth of Snapshot Games
Last week I (UV) took a trip to the studio in Sofia. Whilst there, I had the opportunity to walk around the entire studio and look at what each and every developer was working on. Below is a summary of my tour, along with descriptions of what everyone is working on.
Arming the Factions
Snapshot Games has been continuing to grow over the last couple of months with many new members - and there are still more to come.
The Phoenix Project Rises
In order for the factions of Phoenix Point to effectively fight the Pandoravirus (and each other), they require some serious hardware. The character team has been working to provide each faction with a number of different weapons.
Backer Build Three
With work underway on the major content update for Backer Build Three, the character team are hard at work getting the Phoenix Project models ready to go in.
Since the first Backer Build of Phoenix Point was delivered, we've had fantastic feedback and reactions from our backers.
With Backer Build Three we want to take a major leap forward. We're going to be adding the Geoscape strategic element of the game.
Backer Build Two
Havens are one of the largest and most important design elements in Phoenix Point.
Throughout the game, many battles will take place in the NPC Havens of New Jericho, Synedrion and The Disciples of Anu. In addition, there will also be Havens that are independent from these factions. A major consideration for the design team has been to make each faction's Havens look unique.
We are pleased to announce that Backer Build Two is scheduled for delivery on July 3rd. If you're already a preorder customer with the Luxury Digital Edition or above (Digital Extras Edition for Fig backers), look out for an email from Xsolla some time on the 3rd with your unique download link. Versions will be provided for PC, Mac OS and Linux.
